This involves identifying pollution, its extent, its potential impact and its consequences, at the request of a manufacturer, outside the framework of the administrative procedures described below.
SIMPLIFIED RISK ASSESSMENT (E.S.R.)
The authorities may require a manufacturer to conduct this study if it carries out activities that are considered high-risk, or following a pollution incident.
The study is intended to classify the site according to a level of risk specified by law.
It involves historical analysis of the site, combined with desk research concerning the vulnerability of the environment, and ends with on-site inspection.
DETAILED RISK ASSESSMENT (E.D.R)
This is carried out after an E.S.R for sites requiring additional investigation.
It makes it possible to define a cleanup policy in order to reduce the site's risks to an acceptable level.
E.D.R includes an in-depth diagnosis of the site and a precise description of the type and level of risk involved.
